Pink in the City

Pink in the City is an annual, signature dinner-and-dance gala held on the second Saturday in September at the Corinne Jones-Sanders Beach Community Center. Guests wear pink in recognition of cancer survivors, and the event raises funds for cancer-related initiatives and broader family health and wellness programs during the “Paint the Town Pink” weekend. Founded in 2013 with support from the local Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) chapter and now sponsored by the Rosa Verde Foundation, the gala typically welcomes 300–350 guests. It is made possible by the generosity of corporate and community partners. After pausing from 2020 to 2023 due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event returned in 2024 and generated proceeds of $24,000 (2024) and $30,000 (2025) to advance programs and education focused on cancer research, heart health, Alzheimer’s support, diabetes awareness, sickle cell disease education, and mental health education. As this “pink tradition” continues to grow with strong community participation, the Rosa Verde Foundation is expanding its vision and outreach. We are inviting corporate sponsors and former partners to join us in strengthening local health and wellness initiatives while demonstrating visible community leadership. If your organization’s mission aligns with measurable community impact, we welcome the opportunity to discuss sponsorship levels, on-site recognition, and year-round partnership opportunities with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Rosa Verde Foundation.
